Carlos Mencia is an actor, comedian, and writer from the United States.
Mencia’s comedic style is frequently political, addressing problems of race, culture, criminal justice, and socioeconomic class. He is most known for hosting the Comedy Central series Mind of Mencia, which ran for four seasons before being canceled in 2008.
Ned Arnel Mencia was born in Honduras on October 22, 1967.
His father was Honduran and his mother was Mexican. Mencia has stated that he went by the Holness name regardless, and was known as “Ned Holness” until he was 18 years old, out of respect for his biological father.
Mencia grew up in a Roman Catholic family in California. Staying out of trouble as a kid, he admits, was challenging, but he managed with the aid of his family.
In 1988, he appeared at The Comedy Store and The L.A. Cabaret in Los Angeles.
As a result of his success in these settings, he was invited to perform on The Arsenio Hall Show and Buscando Estrellas, where he won the title of International Comedy Grand Champion.
He hosted ‘Funny is Funny!’ on Galavision in 1998. He continued to do stand-up, including a highly successful tour with Freddy Soto and Pablo Francisco called “The Three Amigos” in 2001.
In the early 2000s, his career took off. He also worked as an actor, appearing in episodes of ‘Moesha’ and ‘The Shield,’ as well as acting in the film ‘Outta Time.’
Mencia appeared in a Bud Light Super Bowl XLI commercial. He began appearing in commercials for the weight-loss product Belly Burner in 2009. In 2011, he embarked on a stand-up comedy tour that began in Schaumburg, Illinois and ended at Treasure Island in Las Vegas.
